Today’s high-pressure, competitive culture can interfere with healthy child development. When we are too focused on test scores, performance, and grades, we may deny kids the time and energy they need to effectively tackle the demanding work of growing up. This fast-paced way of life places children under increasing pressure and stress, which can result in burnout, disengagement, unhealthy life patterns, and debilitating health problems. Further, over-scheduling infringes upon the most productive activity for kids: unstructured play. In this presentation, we'll explore what school and district leaders can do to help students thrive, inside and outside the classroom.

During this session, you will learn about your school's responsibilities when hosting a team, the new FCIS Accreditation Portal and Self-Study, and how to prepare for a Compliance Visit. Time will be set aside for questions and answers. This session is highly recommended for schools with evaluations in 2018-19 and 2019-20, but all are welcome.

Building Cultures of Innovation
One of the obstacles administrators face when leading change isn’t a specific person or challenge, but something more amorphous: culture. Culture is built by all of us, and is embodied through our use of time and space, rewards, systems, language, and artifacts. But its complexity can often make it difficult to change. How can we increase openness to new initiatives? How can we increase feelings of belonging and support? In this interactive session, we’ll unpack the opportunity administrators have to strengthen the culture in their school. We’ll explore the many levers that shape culture, identify strategies to effect cultural change, and discover ways our own leadership presence can model the change we want to see.
