Being Well While Doing Good
November 2-4, 2022
Thank you! It was so much FUN!
Welcome Letter from Our Convention Co-Chairs
Dear FCIS Member Schools and Colleagues,
As your 2022 FCIS Convention Chairs, we are looking forward to personally welcoming you to Jacksonville for the FCIS Annual Convention on November 3-4, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront. We believe this convention is timely and our theme of Being Well While Doing Good will hit the mark that all of us are aiming for in our schools and for ourselves. As the pace of the school year and professional demands increase, the tremendous value of taking time for professional development and collaboration with our peers cannot be underestimated. Spending these few days with Florida’s leading independent school representatives provides value to all our institutions.

We will be featuring Pre-Conference Workshops for heads of schools, administrators, advancement professionals and business officers on November 2nd. Pre-Conference Workshop with ISM
Session 1 • 9:00am-12:00pm
Who Should Attend? Admissions and Marketing professionals; School Heads
Penny Abrahams, IAP-L
Consultant
Independent School Management (ISM)
Pre-Conference Business Officers' Workshop
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2
1:00-5:00PM
Session 1 • 1:00-2:30pm
Financial Aid Policy and Protocols Post-COVID Planning
Confidence comes from being prepared, right? We have had several years of not knowing what will come next. Join me as we take this sacred time to build up our confidence for the season ahead. We will take protocols we adopted in COVID and enhance/identify what we want to continue to use going forward. We will also look at those protocols we want to start to wind down and cycle out. We will review tax forms, processes for families with income changes and protocols for families that are still long term unemployed or underemployed. We will look at a few family files to help you to draft your own protocols knowing what works uniquely for your school. Everyone will walk away with the confidence to update their own school protocols and be prepared for the season ahead.
Session 2 • 2:30-4:00pm
Finding Clarity When the Financial Aid Calculator Breaks
Clarity is a place between too little and too much in financial aid folder reviews. We can find ourselves diving down deep rabbit holes of financial aid file review only to pop up and still feel concerned. There is no absolute “correct” amount a family will pay, so let’s remove that pressure off your shoulders and help you find a good number. We also cannot just rely on a mathematical equation to do all the heavy lifting in those more complicated files. We need to find the balance between too little and too much data to make a good sound decision. We will demystify a few files where the math just doesn’t make sense and give you some strategies and options on how to get to that place of clarity.
Session 3 • 4:00-5:00pm
Prepping Reports for your Head of School/Board of Trustees-Board Retreat Ready!
As the FA season winds down and before you have amnesia about it, ask yourself, what do I need? Massage? Of course! What do you need from your head and those that control the budget, your board, to be successful next year? Financial aid data can tell a story of success or challenges and sometimes both. We will provide steps on how to clean up your data so that you can deliver your financial aid story and share your needs. Or simply just share the big successes!
Who should attend? CFOs/Business Officers, Directors of Enrollment Management
