The Academy of the Holy Names
was founded in 1881 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM).
The Academy is a Catholic, independent, co-educational elementary school and a
college preparatory high school for young women. It is the second oldest
high school in the state of Florida. The Academy sits on a 18 acre campus
near downtown Tampa. The school is part of the larger SNJM network which
includes schools in Canada, Oregon, Washington, California, and New York.
The SNJM movement, started in 1843 in Quebec, Canada, focuses on the education
of children, women, and the marginalized.
